Saturday saw the Freshmen & Sophomores in action at the Intersectionals in Van Cortlandt Park. The weather could not have been better for racing.
The Freshman Boy's Championship race was the first event of the day and we got off the a great start. Our frosh "A" team took the Championship in convincing fashion. The team of Brendan Gallagher (6th), Tom Diliberto (7th), Matt Nock (8th), Robert Ferrara (15th), Kevin Kreider (17th), Frank Segreto (26th) and Dan Meehan (37th) combined for a team score of 53, more than 80 points lower than the 2nd place team.
The Freshman Ladies were next up and they
ran away with this race, placing all 5 scorers in the top 9 and all 7 in the top 14. Veronica Leddy placed in her normal position (1st) with Olicia Williams right behind her (2nd), Sloane Russ (4th), Lauren Lavoro (7th), Victoria Ciotti (9th), Liz Fallon (13th) and Janna Powell (14th). The margin of victory was not as vast as the boy's, but even more impressive was the placing with the ladies winning by 36 points. The team time average was 32 seconds faster than the 2nd place team.
The boy's "B" team got on the course next and continued the winning ways of the "A" teams. They took the top 4 spots to insure an easy victory. They were led by Brian Smith (1st), Keith Vita (2nd), Matt Pluhowski (3rd), Eric Macaluso (4th), Sal Giuliano (16th), Gene Kum (20th) and Mike Ravella (30th). Their margin of victory was 33 points.
The ladies again came on the grounds in the "B" race and while not a scoring race, I can tell by the results that we would have dominated this race as well. We had the top 3 spots and all 7 in the top 10. The team was led by Lauren Fontana (1st), Kristin Kelsch (2nd),
Nicole Krawczyk (3rd),
Devon Dougherty (5th), Samantha Duranti (7th),
Mariella Billello (8th) and Katerina Duarte (10th).
The Frosh boy's "C" team was the last freshman race in the park and they ran well. The team of Austin Seda (2nd), Christian Petersen (7th),
Ryan Sheppard (10th), Dominic Nastasi (11th),
Mike Falcone (14th), Frank Vulpi (18th)
and Gerard Nicosia (25th)
bringing the team to a 2nd place finish.
The Sophomore boys "A" team came up next and also ran very well. The team of Matt Fortino (5th), Colin Davis (7th),
Tom Flynn (9th), James Krawczyk (16th), Marc Saracino (18th),
Joe Lunger (20th) and Nick Johnson (21st) ran to a 2nd place finish,
with several PR's on the day.
The Soph Ladies were up next and they also scored a 2nd place finish, only 6 points from the first place team. They were led by Kayden Becker (12), Danielle Cornell (13),
Kathleen Westervelt (18), Genevieve Leo (23),
Kathryn Adams (29), Lauren Reinertsen (38) and
Shannon McGahan (39).
The last race of the day was the soph boy's "B" race, and ended the day on an up note. Nick Mazzucca led the team with a first place finish. Nick Kaufmann took 2nd, Tom Thieke (4),
Casey French (5), Ian Storck (6), Payton Hazzard (7) and
Matt Bruinooge (8).
The team dominated this race and shows the depth of the team come indoor season.
