Frosh/Soph League Championships Recap

First a note:  The league combines the girl's Freshmen & Sophomores into one Championships, unlike the boy's, who compete for seperate class championships.

Since the Frosh had the bigger day, I'll start with them...
Beside Tom Diliberto, there were many other outstanding performances.

Branden Lane placed 3rd in the 55m dash as well as being a part of the winning 4X200m relay.

We had 2 other relay teams score, with a 4th place finish and a 5th place finish in the 4X400 and the 4X800 relays respectively. Eric Macaluso garnered some points for the team, taking 2nd in the Triple Jump and 3rd in the Long Jump.  In the 300m dash, we took 2nd, 3rd & 4th with those medals going to Gene Kum, James Priftakis and Napoleon Zapata respectively.

Matt Nock took 3rd in the 1600m run, Dan Meehan also took a bronze medal, this in the 600m run.  That completed the scoring, giving the Freshmen a 67 - 58 victory over 2nd place SJB.

On the Sophomore side, in the first race of the day, Matt Fortino (3rd) and
Thomas Flynn (5th) scored in the 3200m run.  In the 1000m run, Tim Fiola (3rd) and
Nick Mazzucca (4th) gained the team some valuable points.  Genis Guzman scored a 3rd place finish in the 55m hurdles.  Matt Fortino then came back in the 1600m run to gain a 5th place finish.  In the field events, Michael Ravella leapt to a 4th place finish in the Long Jump.
Warner also competed in a field event, gaining a 2nd place finish in the Triple Jump, with Eric Slater taking 3rd and Ian Storck taking 5th.  In the Shot Put, Thomas Harty placed 3rd and Joseph Michalek took 5th.   In the relays, the 4X800 teams gained more valuable points by taking 2nd and 5th.  In the 4X400, we scored again, taking 3rd and 5th.  In addition to winning the 4X200, we also took 5th.  We needed every point to best Chaminade, which we managed with a 69 - 67 margin.

The Ladies despite the hard luck of not gaining points in the jumps performed very well.
In the 3000m run, Lauren Lavoro (3rd) and Veronica Leddy (4th) put the first points of the day on the board for the Lady Friars.  In the 1000m run, Danielle Cornell (3rd) and Lauren Fontana (5th) added more to the team total.  In the 600m run, Lauren Reinertsen placed 2nd, Sloane Russ 3rd and Shannon Murphy 4th.  In the Long Jump, Alison Cucci took 2nd and in the Shot Put, Olga Murray also placed 2nd.   In the relays, the 4X400m teams placed 2nd and 5th.  In the 4X800, besides the win, we also placed 4th.  And in the last race of the day, besides winning the 4X200, our "B" team gained a 4th place overall finish from the 2nd heat (which they won easily).

Despite the loss to Kellenberg, our Ladies have nothing to be ashamed about.  They competed fantastically and show the bright future that the girl's program has ahead of it!!
