Randolf Invitational Recap

The day started out with miserable weather, deteriorated further when it was realized that the bus wasn't ordered and then faced with the prospect of heading to NJ via the George Washington Bridge at the height of rush hour.  The bright spot came when a bus showed up within 30 minutes of being ordered and the team sailed into NJ, clearing the dreaded GWB in just over 1 hour.  Gone were the fears of the Freshman team not making their race. The cool heads of Mr. Dearie & Mr. Bohan had the freshmen ready to compete for the first time representing St. Anthony's.  They competed in grand style, placing the 5 scorers in the top 15 with the top 4 in the first 10 scorers.  The freshmen were led by Jake Hensler (4th overall),
Joe Orelli (9th), William Isenberg (13th), Dave Lipsky (18th), Dave Kean (25th)
Matt Taddeo (33rd) and Sean Fitzgerald (35th) were the top 7 (in cross country, teams are 7 people with the first 5 counted as scorers.  Runners 6 & 7 are counted in the event of a tie.)  With that firepower, the freshmen claimed a team victory, besting the 2nd place team by 23 points!  Welcome to the winning tradition of St. Anthony's, you've done us proud!

In the JV race, we again placed all 5 scorers in the top 15 with the top 4 in the top 8, unfortunately the winning team was a little too tough today so we had to settle for 2nd, despite a terrific effort by the team.  The JV squad was led by Matt Fortino (4th) with Brian Smith (6th),
Tyler DeRubio (7th), Justin Therry (8th), Matt Nock (16th), Nick Johnson (18th) and
Jared Sassone-McHugh (21st) rounding out the scorers.

The Varsity team took a cue from the Frosh, winning their race, with a larger spread however, still amassing a 22 pt. victory margin.  Being the last race of the night, the course conditions were at their worst for this race and yet despite that, the team posted some impressive times.  Pat Murphy led the team taking 3rd, followed by Ken Walshak (5th), Tom Flynn (12th),
Nick Brennan (18th), Brandon Keany (26th), Robert Tassey (35th) and Tom Diliberto (52nd).

Well done guys!!
