Guys & Ladies victorious in
League Championships!!!

The guys and gals both earned the title of League Champs for 2011 yesterday. The ladies won in convincing fashion, out scoring the 2nd place team by 35 points. The Ladies won 10 events and scored in every single event. In fact, there was only 1 event (55HH) where we didn't have multiple scorers. Lauren Lavoro started the day off right by winning the 3000m run. Olicia Williams put on a show, winning 2 individual events (600m & 1000m) and anchoring the winning 4X400m relay team. The Ladies claimed 4 of the scoring spots in the High Jump, taking 1-3 & 5th. Katie Gallagher won, clearing 5'3 with Liz Fallon, Vicky Pileggi and Leigh Poetzch scoring. Katie wasn't done winning yet, claiming first in the Long Jump, going 17'3", with Vicky Pileggi taking 5th, jumping 16'6 3/4". The depth of this ladies team is awesome and bodes well for the next few years.
The guys had to sweat out their victory, with the meet hanging in the balance of the 4X200m relay. Colin Volpe ran a phenomenal anchor leg, especially after colliding with another runner at the handoff which forced him to run out to lane 3 to clear the confusion and went from 2nd to last. He merely ran down the field with explosive acceleration and narrowly (0.02 sec) gained the victory for the race & the meet. The guys on the field events don't often get the praise they deserve, but they were key in the team's victory. Cameron Black picked the best time to set a new PR in the High Jump, clearing 5'11" which earned him the gold. Other huge performances for the team, were the guys in the shot put, Chris Hand, who claimed gold, Bryan Rhodes, Keith Gallagher & Blake Walton, all of whom set new PR's. Also coming up big were Mike Brunoforte & Matt Pulhowski in the Pole Vault taking 1st & 2nd respectively. Even so, we would not have won if it wasn't for EVERYONE contributing, every single point was needed for the win.
Coach Panker created a break-down of the scoring which showed 2 things, we had a balanced attack with the field events taking 35 points & the track events claiming 39 and we scored in every event except the 300m dash. The total commitment by everyone on the team was the deciding factor in our win. Now it's time to gear up physically & mentally for the Intersectional Championships!!
